Performance

The engine on the 2019 Kia Optima’s LX and S trims is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which outputs 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque and is hitched to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The more fuel efficiency-oriented EX trim gets a smaller, 1.6-liter turbocharged I4, which puts out 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The SX is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 with 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Like the LX and S, the SX has a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Interior and Features

A five-seater, the 2019 Kia Optima has a passenger volume of 120.7 cubic feet and a trunk space of 15.9 cubic feet. Upgrade to the S to get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sporty seat trim, and 10-way power adjustability and 2-way power lumbar support on the driver’s side. The EX is upgraded with leather-trimmed seats, as well as front-seat heating (new for 2019). With the SX, you will get a lot more: sport leather upholstery, ventilated and heated front seats, steering-wheel heating, driver’s-side 12-way power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar support, front-passenger 10-way power adjustability and 2-way power lumbar support, and a memory system. Standard comfort and convenience features include remote keyless entry, a 3.5-inch TFT LCD meter display, UVO in-car connectivity, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth®, Siri® Eyes Free, a USB port and audio jack, SiriusXM® satellite radio service, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ for smartphone integration, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The 2019 model year marks the addition of push-button start on the S trim, which also comes with a smart key system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The EX and SX have dual USB charging-only ports. The SX is the only trim with feature such as a 4.3-inch TFT color LCD meter display, HD Radio™, a voice-activated navigation system, SiriusXM® Traffic service, and a 10-speaker 630-watt Harman Kardon® stereo system.

Safety

Standard safety features on the 2019 Kia Optima include seven airbags, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic stability control, hill start assist control, and a rearview camera. Kia also adds the following advanced safety technologies: blind spot collision warning, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with avoidance assistance, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning. Options or upper-level enhancements include pedestrian detection, smart cruise control, and stop-and-go technology.
