Tracing its roots to as far back as the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Kia Stinger made its debut six years later as a 2018 model, providing the industry with a slick-looking compact fastback with five doors. The next year, the Stinger was enhanced with a standard blind spot monitoring system, as well as the addition of surround-view camera as an available feature. Performance

The 2.0T and Premium trims have a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which provides 255 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, under their hoods. The GT, GT1, and GT2 trims are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6, which has an output of 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. Each engine has automatic stop/start technology to eliminate idling and is tied to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with the option of replacing it with an all-wheel drivetrain.

Interior and Features

Designed as a five-seater, the 2019 Kia Stinger has a passenger volume of 93.8 cubic feet and a standard cargo volume measured at 23.3 cubic feet. Standard seating and steering accommodations include leather seat trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and front seating with heating ability, 12-way power adjustability with 4-way power lumbar support on the driver’s seat, and 8-way power adjustability with 2-way power lumbar support on the front passenger seat. For comfort and convenience, the 2019 Stinger starts with features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a 3.5-inch TFT LCD display, a smart key system with push-button engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, six-speaker audio, the UVO eServices infotainment integration system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack for connecting portable devices, dual charging-only USB ports, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Upgrades include wireless phone charging ability, a head-up display, a 7-inch TFT color LCD display, a garage-door opener, voice-command navigation, a nine- or 15-speaker system, and an 8-inch touchscreen.

Safety

The 2019 Kia Stinger’s standard safety features include seven airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, brake fade compensation, cornering brake control, hill start assist control, blind spot collision warning, front and rear parking distance warning, lane change assist, and an anti-theft system. Upper-level trims get additions such as rear cross-traffic collision warning, forward collision warning, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, smart cruise control, stop-and-go technology, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and the aforementioned surround-view camera.
